Families who have lost homes in Mindanao due to Typhoon Storm (TS) Pablo (international name Bopha) will end the year with a great celebration. Around 3,505 of them had moved now to their new housing units in New Bataan, Compostela Valley Province and in Cateel, Davao Oriental on November 25, 2014 when the Hon. Jose Rene D. Almendras, Cabinet Secretary, Atty. Chito M. Cruz, General Manager of the National Housing Authority (NHA), and Local Government Officials turned-over the ready-for-occupancy units.
It was on December 4, 2012 when TS Pablo ravaged and displaced thousands of families in Mindanao with Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental as the provinces heavily affected with floods and landslides that killed many and destroyed properties and homes.
Having 185kph maximum sustained winds, TS Pablo also cut communication, water and electric lines which made lives difficult for the residents.
For TS Pablo victims, a total of 17,030 housing units are in various stages of development, 6,000 of which are completed but undergoing documentation process and 3,505 are ready for occupancy and for turn-over according to the Provincial Government of Davao-Local Inter-Agency Committee (LIAC). Implemented under the Rehabilitation Program of NHA, the house and lot package is worth Php 220,000.00 duplextype completed housing, in a 60 square meter lot.
In Compostela Valley, there are 2,967 units for turn-over in different project sites, namely: San Antonio Village, Brgy. Maparat, Compostela (300 units); Lower Ulip Resettlement Project, Brgy. Poblacion, Monkayo (443 units); Sariwarain Village, Brgy. Union, Monkayo (225 units); New Bataan Resettlement Project 1, Brgy. San Roque, New Bataan (1,214); New Bataan Resettlement Project 2, Brgy. Andap, New Bataan (50); Vida Vista 3, Brgy. New Visayas, Montevista (335) and Mont Eagle Ville, Brgy. Kidawa, Laak (400 units). In Davao Oriental Province – 538 housing units are for turnover: San Alfonso Village, Brgy. San Alfonso, Cateel (167 units); San Antonio Village III, Brgy. San Antonio, Cateel (289) and Cateel Housing Project, Brgy. Taytayan, Cateel (82).
The NHA is one of the five Key Shelter Agencies KSAs) under the supervision of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council chaired by Vice President Jejomar C. Binay.
