Environmental Protection cum Livelihood Enhancement Programs are but one of the many vital corollary service delivery thrusts of the Authority for its beneficiaries across the country, especially in Tacloban City.
And for these schemes, the Community Relations and Information Operations Dept. (CRIOD) led the two-day live-out seminar on April 15 and 16, 2015 at Barangay Tagpuro, Tacloban City. Participated by twenty-seven (27) male and thirteen (13) female leaders of Villa Sofia Resettlement Project, the group was able to plant 100 mangrove seedlings along the seaside of Villa Sofia.
The two-day seminar was facilitated by speakers from the National Housing Authority and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The first day focused on lectures and presentations on environmental protection and role delineation among stakeholders and partners. Representatives from DENR CENRO also engaged on the lecture proper, with Mr. Edgardo M. Guya, DENR CENRO of Catbalogan City, Samar lecturing on the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 and Mr. Wilfredo Lacambra, DENR CENRO of Candahug, Palo, Leyte focusing on plant raising and maintenance. Ms. Ana V. Baul, CRIOD Division Manager facilitated the expectation setting measured through the "Suri-Diwa" exercise and discussed the background of NHA EPP.
On the second day, the tree-planting session was conducted early in the morning. The participants were grouped into four, wearing color-coded t-shirts, and then went back to the training venue for the continuation of the remaining activities and lectures. Mr. Fernando Mojica, CRIOD and NHA-Visayas Management Office (VMO) facilitated the action planning and critiquing of the participants' outputs.
