A total of 821 families whose houses were damaged or destroyed by Typhoon Ulysses last November 11, 2020, received P4.105 million in financial assistance from the National Housing Authority (NHA) on June 17, 2022 at the Conventional Center in Brgy. Concepcion 2, Marikina City.
Led by NHA’s NCR East Sector Regional Office, each beneficiary-family received P5,000 cash assistance from NHA’s Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP) to help in the reconstruction of their homes. The families are from Marikina Brgys. Barangka, Concepcion Uno, Jesus Dela Peña, Kalumpang, Malanday, Marikina Heights, Nangka, Parang, San Roque, Sta. Elena, Sto. Niño, Tañong, and Tumana.
Marikina City Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” R. Teodoro graced the event. In an interview, he said, “Ang Marikina palaging dinadalaw ng mga kalamidad, mga bagyo, binabaha, kaya ang mga tahanan ng ating mga kababayan dito, talagang nasasalanta. Kaya talagang kinakailangan ng ating mga kababayan ang ganitong mga tulong. Kaya napaka laki ng aming pasasalamat sa NHA, at higit sa lahat, sa ating Pangulo Rodrigo Duterte at kay Senator Bong Go na siyang nag-connect sa amin sa mga ganitong programa.”
Ms. Laila Mansalapuz, one of the beneficiaries, also thanked the Authority for the assistance. “Malaking tulong ito para sa amin,” she said. Ms. Mansalapuz added that she would use the cash aid to elevate her family’s house to prevent it from submerging in floodwater again, like what happened during Typhoon Ulysses.
On June 24, 2022, NHA will turnover another P1.42 million EHAP for 248 families from Brgy. Tumana, Marikina who were also affected by Typhoon Ulysses.
Typhoon Ulysses is one of the three typhoons that wreaked havoc in Luzon for three consecutive weeks just months after the implementation of lockdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The other two are Super Typhoon Rolly and Typhoon Quinta, which made landfall in Luzon on October 25 and November 1, 2020, respectively.
Also present at the event were Marikina City personnel, the staff of Senator Christopher “Bong” T. Go, NHA Pasig/Marikina/Manggahan District Office Officer-in-Charge Monn Alexander Ong, and Head of Operations and Acting Community Support Services Unit Chief Eulenia C. Villenia.
