National Housing Authority (NHA) General Manager Marcelino P. Escalada Jr. led the inauguration of Marawi’s road infrastructures, the Sarimanok Sports Stadium, and the Marawi Convention Center inside the city’s most affected area (MAA) on May 20, 2022.
The event kicked off with a marathon participated in by various national and local government officials, employees, athletes, and teams from the NHA and Mindanao State University (MSU).
Other activities held were torch lighting by Philippine Long Jump Queen Elma Muros; an exhibition from the MSU Karatedo Club; contests in athletics, soccer, and volleyball; and a basketball game between the NHA Builders and MSU Sultans, which the NHA Builders won.
Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) Chairman and Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary Eduardo del Rosario, Senator Ronaldo “Bato” dela Rosa; Philippine Sports Commission Commissioner Charles Raymond Maxey, and Marawi City Mayor Majul U. Gandamra also graced the momentous event, which was the concluding part of the Marawi Week of Peace Sports Festival.
NHA, a member agency of the TFBM formed to rehabilitate Marawi, realized its tasks by administering the Ground Zero clearing of unexploded ordnances and improvised explosive devices; building thousands of permanent and temporary shelters for the war-displaced families; rehabilitating the city’s road network; and constructing the Sarimanok Sports Stadium and the Marawi Convention Center.
The activity manifests President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s promise that “Marawi will rise again.”
