The National Housing Authority (NHA) Region VIII and the Ormoc City Housing Office (OCHO) relocated the first batch of beneficiaries to Ormoc Highlands 2 on June 15, 2022. The relocation activity which started on May 13, 2022, has transferred 294 beneficiaries to their new homes. The housing project in Barangay Dolores, Ormoc City, Leyte, is under the Calamity Housing Program of NHA, intended to aid the affected families of the 6.5 magnitude earthquake that hit Leyte on July 6, 2017.
The 6.23-hectare housing site is comprised of 699 residential units with open spaces for community facilities and was completed last February 21, 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all housing-related activities were postponed until the trend in local transmissions decreased. During the pandemic, some of the housing units were also used as isolation facilities and quarters for Ormoc City front liners.

The beneficiaries were from Ormoc City barangays, where the earthquake hit the hardest: Lake Danao, Cabintan, Cabaonan, Milagro, and Togonan. They were identified and validated by the Ormoc City local government through its City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and OCHO.
Lionila Diaz, one of the beneficiaries, expressed her gratitude for her new home. “Our house at Purok 2, Brgy. Cabintan was damaged during the earthquake last 2017. Our family is grateful that we were included as beneficiaries of this housing project. We are thankful to the NHA and the LGU, especially to President Duterte, for the fast construction of the housing project. We are planning to improve our housing unit here in Ormoc Highlands 2,” said Ms. Diaz.
