National Housing Authority (NHA) General Manager Marcelino P. Escalada, Jr., handed over a check worth P75,060,000.00 out of the total cost of P125,100,000.00 to the Provincial Government of Leyte for the construction of Peace and Prosperity Village 1, a housing project intended for former rebels (FRs).
The turnover coincided with the Joint National Task Force to End Local Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) and Region VIII Task Force to End Local Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC) and was held last March 18, 2021 in Tacloban City. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the conduct of a dialogue with the FRs, with various key government officials and local chief executives of Leyte Province.
The 5.47-hectare housing project located at Daja Daku, San Isidro, Leyte, shall generate 278 houses. As a conventional duplex, each housing unit shall have a modal lot size of 60 sqm. and a floor area of 21 sqm. Each house and lot package shall cost P450,000.00.
The project includes water and power distribution lines that would be ready to be tapped from local sources. Open spaces shall be allocated for the construction of community facilities, parking spaces, parks, and playgrounds.
This whole endeavor is under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of the Task Force Balik Loob (TFBL). E-CLIP aims to help FRs reintegrate into mainstream society by providing them with basic necessities such as but not limited to livelihood, financial assistance, and housing as a means to restart their lives. As part of Task Force Balik Loob, the NHA shall provide housing for the FRs enrolled under E-CLIP.
